jordan

your tank is nice and clear,
typical koi lol(oh yeah you wont be able to have gravel in your pond plants pots big pebbles only or you will be forever picking up off the bottom and catc hing floating plants :Smiley)

keep a close eye on the koi as they grow they will eventually bully the fancies, they will fin nip the fancies as they are slower and cant get out of the way of the koi, the koi will also chase the fancies till they become so stressed, ill or die (i speak from experience, jelly my pure white fancy goldie had a beautifull set of fins came down one morning can the koi where shredding him to bits,i just glad i had the pond to put the koi into)
keep a close eye on the tanks water perameters koi play havoc with water in a tank with them being a dirty fish (they creat a lot of waste)
have a look here this will let you about the ph for koi

redcap like ph 6.5-7.5
black moor like ph 6.0-8.0

hi jordan
around the 1980s japanese breeders bred wild indonesian longfin river carp with traditional koi to get a hardier koi as a result the koi ended up with longer fins ,longer barbells, pompom nostrils and they are belived to be hardier aka the butterfly koi
alot of koi breeders and keepers dont like them as they dont see them as true koi

it is more then likely you will end up with either a mix of long and short fin or have a hybred which will show signs of both parents
to be honest it would be a case of wait and see what you get

if they did spawn then let nature take its course the eggs and fry wont survive unless you take the eggsout ,hatch and rear them seperate from the adult koi,so dont worry about having to get rid of you butterfly koi

Hi Saph and Jordan,
I dont mean to burst anyones bubbles here but Longfin Butterfly koi are actualy ghosties and will only produce more 'longish' finned ghost koi. If you let your water parameters slip a bit they will darken as characteristic of ghost koi

Ghost koi are basically produced from cross breeding and are a popular variety of koi except with breeders as a ghost koi male will litteraly destroy all colour strains if crossed with say a kohaku or doitsu variety. Long fin butterflys are nowadays bred for the ornamental market because of their unusal appearance. Where as they are hardy when they get larger the long fins give the appearance of being split or torn but it is perfectly natural
