I couldn't resist taking this picture, The leaves are now just touching the water and the larger fish are pulling and chewing them

Hi Saph,

I've no idea of the plants name. The leaves grow out up to about 3 foot then start to lean down. It is similar to a very large grass leaf but a lot tougher

Hi Saph,
I reckon your right about the plant being a sarex, However, a slightly different variety to yours, The leafs look identical but it flowers different. Where as yours seems to produce a 'tail' like flower mine develops very small flowers which are very sparce and when they go to seed they drop off everywhere.I've attatched a picture but you might be decieved a little by its colour. It always used to be a darker green in colour but 2 years ago I salted the pond and it took its toll on the plant and has never been right since even though their is no salt in the pond ever since.By October it will be treble or even quadruple its size that it is now.Its been in the same place for four years now and its outgrown the mesh basket its in and sprouted out of the sides. It would be immossible to move it now without having to cut it up and dividing it.

andy

cut one of the leaves  then crush it in your hand and see if it smells lemony, it isnt a strong smell so you will have to put it close to your nose.
my carex goes bonkers too i have had to split it as its out grown 2 pots and i have only got garden pots big enough so its sat at the side of the pond rather then in it

you will have to take a pic of the plant and flowers when its matured
