It would appear that lots of koi keepers are experiencing bacterial blooms in their ponds causing secondary infections in the fish. The high temperatures of late is actually hampering their recovery and in some cases making some treatments less effective than they should be

I'm off to a local koi dealer today [friday] to try to sort out their problems that they are having. I am also having a stubborn problem with a chagoi of my own, just started it on a course of antibiotics which is something I never favour I just use it as a last resort.

As a rule of thumb infections are normally secondary after the parasites do the initial damage. In the case of my chagoi it was due to the males battering her as she was full of eggs and as I havn't let any of the females spawn this year I was hoping they would carry them over the colder periods where they just naturally reabsorb them

Hi Saph, long time no hear, thought you might of had a chance to stop in that caravan lol My big chag is now returned to the main pond after successful treatment to the damage she had on her. Antibiotic injections work wonders, I don't like using them but if needs must then you have to use them

Hi Saph I rescued a 12 inch Kujakoo about 3 weeks ago which was on the brink of death, removed about 18 scales from a well infected wound on its side and that has healed beyond all expectations,It's totally amazed me at the speed in which it has healed. Obviously the scales will take some time to reshape but the wound is now skinned over. Its now a typical Kujakoo, lightning fast and feeds vigourously

My spelling Saph, however I am noted for not spelling the koi varieties names properly as I often think they can sound different as to how they are spelt so I often spell them as they would be pronounced for people who are not familiar with them if that makes any sense
